Over the last few weeks we have heard nothing but how badly the government needed to spend almost a trillion dollars on a list of liberal pet projects. Now Nanci Pelosi is calling on congressional committee chairmen to cut federal spending. Last week she was the Queen of the national credit card and this week she is the matron of restraint and discipline.
Jared Allen of the Hill describes this as an attempt to: “to keep the mantra of “fiscally responsible” legitimately alive in the Democratic Party.”
Nancy Pelosi can pretend to be the voice of fiscal responsibility, but few will believe it. Sorry Madame Speaker, too little too late. We’ve seen your stripe and we know where the smell is coming from. There’s a skunk on capital hill.
Debate, argue, bicker, fight. When did these become bad? When did it become admirable to be spineless? I really get tired of people who start a discussion and when you get a bit passionate they freak out. Or when they assume your disagreement indictes something morally lacking in you. Whatever happened to Americans who believed so passionately in something that they would fight for it, no matter what the cost? Today we are told: “be nice, don’t offend, get along!” I am tired of it. I love to argue. I love to fight passionately for issues that I care about. Nothing gets my juices flowing faster than a good fight. All I need is an opponent that can hold their own in the discussion and do it passionately without losing it. Let’s have a little less civility and fight for what we believe.
If George Bush had proposed moving control of the Census into the White House, the media would have exploded. Crowds would have stood outside of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. burning Bush, Cheney and Rove in effigy. The liberal machine would have accused the president of entrenching control and moving toward tyranny. Since Barack Obama proposed it the silence has been deafening. (more…)
It is hard to imagine a more worthless body than the United Nations. This organization of appeasement, obfuscation and aggrandizement has accomplished nothing worthwhile for a long time. As far as I can tell—and correct me if I’m wrong—the last time the UN made a decision to stand up against tyranny was the Korean War. On Thursday, the security council continued its unbroken record when they were unable to reach a unanimous decision to condemn the government of Sudan for its attacks on the Darfur region. (more…)
Once again, Arlen Specter and the Mainers (Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine) have sided with the Spendocrats. They double-crossed by crossing over and then continued their dance with the Devil voting in support of the pork-ulous bill. Can someone please tell me what makes Arlen Specter a Republican. The only evidence I see is the little R they append to his name on the news, other than that I see an ass in an elephant skin. It is time to go on a R-I-N-O hunt and this Arlen Specter should be in the political cross-hairs starting yesterday.
Last night the Senate voted for Cloture on the pork-ulous package. Cloture is a tool to squash filibusters, and end debate. The rules require 60 votes to invoke cloture. The Senate has decided that no more debate or discussion is needed on borrowing against the income of our children and grandchildren. (more…)
For the last several weeks we’ve had round the clock Stimulus talk. It is amazing that a President with a clear majority in the House and a near super-majority in the Senate has such a hard time passing his agenda. The only reason for this can be that even those who are strongly in his camp see that this bill is not meant to stimulate anything but Democratic turn out at the ballot box. Why else would so much of the stimulus be delayed until 2010? That year is very important because traditionally the party of the president loses Congressional seats in mid-cycle elections. With no ‘historical vote hysteria’ to push up the turn-out on the left and a resurgent right, President Obama could find himself on a short leash with the next Congress. He is doing all he can to buy votes. Many believed this package would be an easy win for Obama, but not so. (more…)
