President Obama and the Hip-pocket Congress are taking unprecedented steps to seize control of private sector firms, placing their assets under direct federal control. With plans to implement measures to permit government agencies to intercede in large publicly traded companies the push to state control of industry is at a fever pitch. Today’s news includes one such affront to a free market. At the request of the Obama administration, GM CEO Rick Wagoner resigned. This is just one example of the future we face with President Obama. Such is to be expected from Mr. Obama, since he has never worked in private industry, having made his living seeking political solutions to every problem. He can be excused for concluding government activism can make everyone as wealthy as it made him. (more…)
This April 15th in cities across the nation thousands will make their voices heard. One place is San Antonio, home of the Alamo. On tax day proud Texans, descendants of the brave freedom fighters who bloodied the nose of the dictator Santa Anna, will stand together in the face of a run away federal government to tell Obama and his ilk: “Remember the Alamo!”
It would be inspiring to hear this kind of courage from the floor of Congress directed at President Obama, but I fear that such courage is lacking in the U.S. Capital.
Barney Frank is busy. Outspoken in his support for the porkulus package of President Obama, he is now quickly trying to plug a leak that his buddy Chris Dodd engineered. The provision in the stimulus bill that exempted bonuses from restrictions has come to the fore and fostered an uproar; even the Congress, who approved this mess to begin with, is upset. Hard to imagine Congressmen getting upset about spending money, but I guess since it is private individuals spending tax payer dollars that makes it less palatable for them. (more…)
In political discussion, in the United States at least, there is one question that must be answered before any others are asked, when it comes to programs and actions of the Federal government. This week, the question was finally put to Ben Bernanke of the Federal Reserve and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. This question is “What provision in the Constitution could you point to to give authority for the actions that have been taken.” Until this question is answered reasonably no program or action should proceed from Washington. Over the weekend I watched several episodes of Band of Brothers on the History Channel. I always find the generation of World War II intriguing. With all they went through, the death of millions of young men, the deprivation at home—sacrifice unlike anything before or after—one can see why they are known as the Greatest Generation. When you compare our generation, it is obvious there is much they could teach us. (more…)
The wave of states demanding the federal government pull back to its constitutional limits is surging forward. The latest tally I have found is 33 states that have taken action or are considering doing so. The federal government for two long has run roughshod over the states and the rights of her citizens. It is high time the 10th amendment be bolstered and the cronies in Washington be reminded of its meaning. (more…)
Senator Arlen Specter seems to be getting a bit uncomfortable. He is facing the appropriate scorn for crossing the aisle to follow his liberal heart. Not only was he one of only three Republicans in Congress to vote for the porkulus spending package of Obama, Reed and Pelosi, the American triumvirate, but he debauched himself with a cloture vote to squelch debate and force a vote on a bill that members of neither chamber had read. (more…)
The latest actions of our new president, funding embryonic stem cell research, has brought new attention to the fight over abortion. In the discussion, the amount of smoke blown by those supporting the unrestricted killing of children is amazing. Some will charge that how I framed that last is meant to inflame, but it is the sort of attack used regularly against the pro-life movement. (more…)
Every morning I go to the gym to walk on the treadmill. While there, I watch the morning news. Of course, like other level headed Americans I prefer Fox News. I know; I know; it is supposedly right-wing. When you compare it to other channels out there like CNN (Clinton News Network) and MSNBC (Obama Love Fest) anything besides NPR looks right-wing. Anyways, while watching Fox News, a large screen above my head was on CNN with closed caption. I watched for a few minutes to see what the other side was up to. I shouldn’t have done it; it could have been fatal. (more…)
