While he exerted great power in life, Kim Jong Il now understands that death take us all.

I am going to shock many of my Christian friends today because I am doing something we are all taught not to do. I am celebrating a death. More monster than man, he was, but we are always taught to think of what it would be like to be in that person’s shoes and say “There but by the grace of God, go I.” If there ever were an exception, perhaps it is found in Kim Jong Il, the petty potentate of North Korea.

Kim, the successor and son of North Korean dictator Kim Il Sung, recently died at the age of 69. Upon his father’s death he took the reins in that isolated country and was responsible for policies that led to mass starvation and cannibalism, while continuing his father’s policies of purging political enemies in concentration camps. The elder Kim (the father), whose mother was reputedly a Christian deaconess, instituted the Juche heresy in which the Father (Kim Il Sung), the son (Kim Jong Il) and Juche (National self-reliance) ideology are literally worshipped as a state trinity. Kim Jong Il expanded this into a full-blown cult while threatening to destroy “the Land of Morning Calm” (traditional name of Korea) and enslave of his southern neighbor, while shaking his nuclear fist at the world.

As a Christian, I would hope and pray Kim Jong Il confessed the name of Christ prior to death—the same prayer I said for his father. This, however, does not keep me from celebrating. Few men have caused more suffering and death through their personal actions. If he confessed Christ, then I will celebrate the mercy of God. If he didn’t, the lover of liberty within me feels there has to be a special place in hell for men like him and his father. They are a perfect example of Lord Acton’s adage, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Anyone wanting to understand life under the Kim regime should read Eyes of the Tailless Animals, by Yi Sun Ok.

Yesterday evening, watching the local news, I saw a story on residents of our city returning from protesting Arizona’s new immigration law. Being Memorial Day, it was painful to hear some of the comments being made about our country and efforts to secure our borders. Apparently every country, including Mexico, is allowed to have secure borders with the sole exception of the one country everyone wants to go to. In honor of these protests I thought I’d offer some points for consideration and a couple recommendations for the state of Arizona.

A secure Southern border will be good for Mexico. As it stands illegals send billions of dollars back to Mexico propping up a broken system. So long as this steady flow of cash continues there is no need for our southern neighbor to fix anything. The country suffers because politicians continue to turn a blind eye to their mismanagement and their country’s less fortunate sons and daughters go off to America to send money back to family. Throughout the Border States wire services to send money to Mexico is a major industry. Of course, those who come here should be allowed to make their own choices about their money and have the freedom to send it home, but only if they are here earning the money legally. With the current situation, the Mexican government has its claws in the pockets of our tax –payers as well as their own.

There is no such thing as a law-abiding illegal alien. This phrase makes my head spin every time I hear it. Of course, I have to admit it has been a while since I heard it because I think even the logic-deficient, bleeding heart left realized it was a bit over the top. However I do still here about those who come here and try hard to obey the laws and work constructively to earn a living. While this is true it overlooks the fact that their very presence in this country is illegal. When this person crossed the border he or she flagrantly broke our laws. When this person took employment without a work-permit more laws were broken. Each day residing in this country and each day working here is another day of illegal activity. Even the nicest of illegal aliens is a criminal, by definition.

Turning a blind eye to illegal immigration insults those who work to enter this country legally. Everyday thousands of people realize the dream of setting foot on the shores of the United States. This country has always attracted the best and brightest of the world’s people. Coming here legally can cost thousands depending upon the country of origin, but these people see it as worth the cost to live in America and have the chances this offers. When we permit a large population to cross and unsecure border and take up long term residence in the US we insult those who come here legally. In effect we are saying to them, “You must pay and jump through hoops to come here. These others get to come here free and without any paperwork.”

Current support for illegal immigration is racist. Those who see Mexicans as somehow in special need or a special exception to the immigration laws, assume that these people just can’t make it without help from a benevolent government. Of course their own government will not help them, unless you count the help they give breaking our laws. Some people feel guilty, believing that being white has given advantages unavailable to other races. This is nothing but a feel good version of the White Man’s burden. It was once seen as a virtue for the white race to control the world and use its power to help those of darker complexions out of barbarity and ignorance. Now it is the white man’s burden to lift up the poor Mexican who comes here illegally. Of course, those believing this do so because they also believe without help from them (the superior white person) the Mexican is unable to help him or herself. Anyone having much contact with Mexican immigrants knows these people are perfectly capable of helping themselves.

After seeing the people from my own city greeted like heroes from a protest in Arizona, I have a recommendation for the state of Arizona. Wherever a group of protesters gather against this law, there is the place to check papers. Permit them to assemble as is their right, but each person participating in or observing should have their residency status checked with those here illegally detained and turned over to ICE. You will very quickly thin the ranks of support at these rallies.

Please consider one other recommendation. Since California, your neighbor, is one of the loudest states standing against you and ICE is threatening to refuse to cooperate with your law enforcement in any cases springing from this law, there is an easy way to handle both problems at once. I recommend you start your own deportation agency. As your officers discover and detain illegals put them on a bus and drop them off in California.

Joe Biden has been out of the house—the White House—and that’s never a good thing. Like the proverbial crazy relative kept out of view in the upper floor of a house, Joe should never be allowed to leave his White House office—at least until 2012 when America will hopefully return to sanity. The best way to secure this would be to brick over the door, leaving an opening just big enough to pass food and water. Unfortunately, no matter how much Obama would like to do this, he just can’t seem to give the order.

Standing before the European parliament, Joe declared Brussels had more of a right to be called the “Capital of the Free World,” than Washington, DC. To support his claim he cited the city’s history and its position as the capital of Belgium, the location of the European parliament and the headquarters of NATO. To say I was shocked is an understatement.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=BngvJvTodl8

I suppose, in the future, when some upstart tyrant conquers his neighbors or kills off the minorities in his country, Europe will ride to the rescue with diplomats flocking to Brussels for help. Good! With Brussels firmly in control, the American military can be brought home from bases around the world. Finally, no longer needing a military, we can sit back and complain about Brussels. Then we, the greatest super-power on earth can finally become Canada.

Let’s consider the history of the US and Brussels for a moment to see who truly deserves this title. Only one look is needed. During WWII, when both nations (the US and Belgium) were involved in resisting Fascism, the US dashed her own sons against the walls of Fortress Europe to overthrow Hitler and liberate a continent. But what was Belgium doing? What is the best way to describe Belgium’s part in that fight for freedom? It is a single word, just on the tip of my tongue. Oh, that’s right, the word is “surrender.” Sorry Brussels, but you’ll have to do a bit more than rent space to some foreign agencies and make waffles to be the Capital of the Free World—keep up the waffles though.

Somebody grab Joe and muzzle him again. Perhaps he should follow the practice of his boss and stick to the teleprompter.

What can the left do when their president slips in the polls daily? President Obama has failed miserably at everything he has done so far. He has not ended the Iraq war as he said he would. He will not be able to close Guantanamo as promised. He has not stopped the Iranian nuclear program. He has alienated friends and cuddled up to enemies and terrorists. He has spent the nation into a record debt, likes of which our nation has never seen. He has handled over the reins of his office to self avowed Communists and America haters. He tried to put his own people in charge of the Census. He has meddled in the finance industry and GMC, seizing control of huge swaths of the economy. Then there is of course healthcare, and his related failures there.

So how is the left to rehabilitate this president’s ratings and raise his poll numbers? Simple, give him the Nobel Peace Prize—no need to produce peace or even move towards it. Of course the prize has nothing to do with producing peace—remember Jimmy Carter won it. It has more to do with making political statements and influencing public opinion. The Nobel Committee is the new PR department of Obama political machine. Do you hear that whirring sound? It’s Alfred Nobel spinning in his grave.

Bill Clinton recently went to North Korea to negotiate for the release of two journalists. Those on the left and the right naturally have differing views about this. The reaction of the right seems to be more based on throwing mud at Bill Clinton before he gets more good press—like there is anything we can ever do to keep the press from fawning over Bubba. Many are saying that this is tantamount to negotiating with terrorists. I would disagree because, though we do not negotiate with terrorists, we have a long standing policy of negotiating with sovereign nations, even terrorist supporting ones. Many on the right are even attacking the two journalists, saying they were foolish and caused their own problems. This also is not a reason to leave them in North Korean custody. One of the things about the US that makes us better than many other countries is that while their government is imprisoning and killing their people we take great strides to protect ours, even at times going to war to protect them.

While the reaction of the right seems churlish, the reaction of the left is naïve. The North very successfully used this and we should admit it. Yes Bill Clinton helped these two women, but that is small in comparison to the world’s condition. The left is using this as a bludgeon against Bush, though he hasn’t been in office for months. They say this shows that diplomacy works, leaving one to assume that diplomacy should have been tried with Iraq and one can only assume with Afghanistan. First of all, we tried diplomacy for years with Iraq. With Afghanistan we acted quickly because they were supporting those who had killed so many of our citizens on 911. Since the Russians had lost to them in the 80’s they assumed we would lose as well. Of course they forgot that we were on their side in the 80’s. Now, while I have always maintained that we should not have entered Iraq when we did, that part of the discussion is over and we have been much more successful in Iraq than the left will ever admit. So let’s look at the scorecard of freed people. Bill Clinton freed two young women who stuck their necks out too far. George Bush freed two nations with populations of millions. While I am no fan of George Bush, you have to give him credit for some things.

Isn’t it nice to live in a warmer, friendlier world? Sorry, I forgot a warmer world was bad—that pesky global warming and all. But at least the world we live in is so much friendlier than when George Bush was in office. I know North Korea is rattling its nukes, Iran has an unchecked nuclear program while in a near civil war and Pakistan is fighting for its life with the Taliban. Regardless of all this, according to a June 22nd article on Military.com we are going to fight a new gentle form of warfare in Afghanistan.

General Stanley McChrystal, commander of international forces in Afghanistan, has made two policy changes that will be sure to get soldiers killed and lengthen the war by years. He has said the new standard for success will not be how many insurgents are killed, but how many civilians are “shielded from violence.” Besides this, he will be issuing orders that troops are to break off fights with the enemy if the enemy are hiding in civilian homes. To have an order that is so blatantly bad from one I can only assume to be a fine, dedicated warrior can only mean it comes from higher up, perhaps the Commander in Chief.

Many of the bleeding hearts out there will be singing the praises of this new order, but I wonder what they say when it turns out to have the opposite effect. It is actually likely to get more civilians hurt because once the enemy knows that civilian homes are a safe place from which to launch attacks they will use more of these tactics. The US is in effect handing the civilians over to the mercy of the insurgents. When you face an enemy who will drive a bomb into a mass of civilians you do not give him a single place of safety. You must be willing to follow him anywhere and root him out. It is true that we want to win the hearts and minds of the population, but if President Karsai wants safety for his people he needs to find a way to strengthen his own army and mobilize them against the enemy.

Is anyone surprised that the military under our current Commander in Chief would limit our ability to win this war? After all liberal democrats are good at getting us into wars that last a long time. People often forget that is was the democrats who got us into Vietnam. I can only hope that our current Liberal in Chief isn’t setting our boys up for another bloody defeat.

Does the world respect us any more? The simple answer is no. According to the AP North Korea is threatening to use nukes against us and our allies. Ad this to the growing problems with the Taliban inside nuclear Pakistan and I think we have to admit the world is worse off with. While the left couldn’t get over President Bush’s pronunciation of nuclear, their man seems to be able to do little more than talk.

North Korea has been toppling on the edge for years. Unfortunately, they are poised to take thousands, or even millions with them. Is it really peace when you allow you enemy to get stronger and stronger. Peace is not a lack of bullets flying. Peace is only possible when there are no enemies left, or when they are fear your displeasure more than your presence. The best thing for our country is a strong foreign policy that calls such mad dogs as Kim Jong Il to task. Let’s see what happens first. Will Kim fall or will a Korean, Japanese or even American city go up in a mushroom cloud? The answer will come from a Chicago community organizer turned liberal Messiah We will soon know if he is the right person to answer that 3 AM phone call. I’m not feeling confident.

President Obama is going to Saudi Arabia in June to meet with King Abdullah. On this trip I would recommend one piece of essential equipment for his kit:

With this he will be able to bow even lower than last time to better humiliate himself and the American people.

So, what is wrong with following custom of bowing to a King? The problem is one of sovereignty. When one bows to a monarch it is a recognition of your subjection and their superiority. In a monarchy the monarch is sovereign and the people are subjects. In our nation the people are sovereign and the leaders are employees.

It would be nice if Mr. Obama would remember why he is the most powerful man in the world—because he was chosen to lead the most powerful nation on earth. The Saudis need us to buy their oil more than we need them to sell it to us. Hopefully Mr. Obama will remember the sovereign to which he owes allegiance and acts of respect—the American people.

After promises to close Guantanamo Bay the Obama administration seems to have woken to the realities of the world we live in. For too long the foreign policy of the left has been “blame America first.” In their view the evil in this world is not people who would kills innocents and blow themselves up out of insane religious zeal. To the left, the only evil in this world is the United States. The country that has freed more people, opened more doors to the unfortunate and given more generously than any other nation on earth is evil and wicked because we refuse to give up our freedoms to build their Utopian dream world, where everyone is equally poor and the individual submits for the sake of the collective.

Shortly after the election Barack Obama was poised to close Club Gitmo and either send the detainees to other countries or move them into our prison system. Now it seems Barry has decided to keep Gitmo open, secure the detainees indefinitely and to restart military tribunals. In effect, the Bush doctrine is under new management. So why would he do this? When he was in the Senate, it was Bush’s job to keep the US safe and to fight terror. Senator Obama had the luxury of speaking against the war, against the troops and against abuses—real or pretend. As president, any attack after his soft stance on terror would screw up his legacy. It seems their only threat is to the memory of the Obama presidency.

Those who know me and my views on liberty and freedom, may find it odd that I am in support of Guantanamo and military tribunals. The war we have been fighting since 911 is unlike any in recent history. For most of our history, going to war involved a set location with defined borders and a specific enemy. In this war there are no borders, no uniforms and no single nation against which we can pour our national wrath. Possibly the closest war to this was against the Barbary pirates under Thomas Jefferson. Had the men in Gitmo chosen to fight under the flag of a foreign country, they would be traditional Prisoners of War with all the protections of international law, held only for the duration. If they had been domestic terrorists, like the Oklahoma City bombers they would be subject to US law and have the protections of our legal system. However, these combatants chose to recognize no nation, follow no laws, wear no uniform and to use any means at their disposal to kill, main and terrorize our citizens. Their goal was to disrupt our lives and abrogate our freedoms through the use of any means possible. Their disposition is not a matter of human rights and maintenance of the dignity due an honorable enemy. It is a matter of keeping what amounts to little more than animals locked away where they can do no more harm. You choose to act like a dog; you find yourself in the pound. They chose their form of war, so they leave us no choice but to use our most effective tools to find, detain or kill them. This is War!

Of course the Obama administration is moving quickly, they have to do something before the theory falls on the ash heap of quack science where it belongs. If they don’t take immediate action they will have lost their excuse for muzzling the US economy and limiting our freedoms—saving the planet.
