The Prime Minister of Iraq is requesting that US troops involved in a raid on Sunday be prosecuted. Though the raid was carried out with the approval of the Iraqi government, the Prime Minister is calling for the release of six insurgents seized in the raid and for charges against the American fighting men who accomplished the mission. In these Obama days of goodwill and dialog, I suppose doing one’s duty to country even at the risk of life and limb is out of place, if not criminal. (more…)

Few things can be worse than the entire country of Afghanistan controlled by the Taliban. With this base Al-Qaida was able to train, mastermind and launch the horrific attacks against our soil and kill thousands of Americans whose only crime was showing up for work on time. Who can think of anything worse than that? The latest news forebodes something far worse, nuclear armed Pakistan potentially under the control of the Taliban. Imagine what Al-Qaida could have done with a nuke or two.
Recently, Pakistan has seeded control of a major area of northwestern Pakistan to the Taliban and allowed the imposition of Sharia law. Not satisfied with this (Do deals with the Devil ever turn out as planned?) the Taliban has extended its influence into a neighboring district bringing it to within 60 miles of the capital.
Though I have my problems with George W. Bush, and have written about them here, at least he was willing to fight even when the world said talk and understood how to deal with those who kill innocents. Perhaps having a cowboy who understood oak-tree justice as Commander-in-Chief was a good thing. Is it possible that our new presidents desire to play at peace has led to this? We no longer have a president who will scorn dictators or tell the world: “You’re either with us or against us!” With a president no longer willing to swing the big-stick all we have left in foreign policy is the soft-talk. I fear that when it comes to foreign policy and dealing with the enemy, “the spine has left the White House.”

An old friend used to say, “It’s not paranoid if they are truly out to get you.” This was entertaining and reminds me of our current president busily apologizing to Europe for American arrogance. Why does this remind me of the previous quote? If ours is the most powerful nation on the planet it isn’t arrogant to say so. If our economy fuels and drives the world economy then it is not arrogant to say. What about Americans is arrogant? Was the sacrifice of thousands of America’s brightest and best to liberate three continents from tyranny arrogant? Was rebuilding a continent ravaged by two world wars arrogant? What about rebuilding our enemies who caused the wars and engineered the death of so many of our own? (more…)

Our nation was founded by men who saw the abuses of Europe as an evil to be shunned. They fought to establish, not a Europe in North America, but a nation of states united for common cause, where sovereignty rested in the people instead of a prince. They understood that the import of European abuses would only lead to tyranny and serfdom so they established a Constitution to define and limit the central government. In effect the federal government is to be a perpetual servant—a slave if you will—of the people and the states. (more…)

Israel has a new leader. One that is determined to protect her interests and not let western appeasement to rogue nations cause their own downfall. The once and now returned Prime Minister Benjamin Natanyahu has warned the world that the US must prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons or Israel will do so. Is this a simple matter of bluff and puff? Let Israel’s history answer that. They have proven that they will not place their safety in the hands of any others; they will protect their own people at their own cost, no matter how great. (more…)

It is hard to imagine a more worthless body than the United Nations. This organization of appeasement, obfuscation and aggrandizement has accomplished nothing worthwhile for a long time. As far as I can tell—and correct me if I’m wrong—the last time the UN made a decision to stand up against tyranny was the Korean War. On Thursday, the security council continued its unbroken record when they were unable to reach a unanimous decision to condemn the government of Sudan for its attacks on the Darfur region. (more…)

Class is in session. One small country surrounded by enemies is schooling the United States and the rest of the world on how to wage a War on Terror. Yes, the liberals will scream, the UN will demand a ceasefire, but unlike ours, the leaders of Israel understand they answer to their own people. (more…)
