Leaking Stimulus

Barney Frank is busy. Outspoken in his support for the porkulus package of President Obama, he is now quickly trying to plug a leak that his buddy Chris Dodd engineered. The provision in the stimulus bill that exempted bonuses from restrictions has come to the fore and fostered an uproar; even the Congress, who approved this mess to begin with, is upset. Hard to imagine Congressmen getting upset about spending money, but I guess since it is private individuals spending tax payer dollars that makes it less palatable for them. (more…)

The Question that Matters

In political discussion, in the United States at least, there is one question that must be answered before any others are asked, when it comes to programs and actions of the Federal government. This week, the question was finally put to Ben Bernanke of the Federal Reserve and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. This question is “What provision in the Constitution could you point to to give authority for the actions that have been taken.” Until this question is answered reasonably no program or action should proceed from Washington. Patriot or Wuss?

Debate, argue, bicker, fight. When did these become bad? When did it become admirable to be spineless? I really get tired of people who start a discussion and when you get a bit passionate they freak out. Or when they assume your disagreement indictes something morally lacking in you. Whatever happened to Americans who believed so passionately in something that they would fight for it, no matter what the cost? Today we are told: “be nice, don’t offend, get along!” I am tired of it. I love to argue. I love to fight passionately for issues that I care about. Nothing gets my juices flowing faster than a good fight. All I need is an opponent that can hold their own in the discussion and do it passionately without losing it. Let’s have a little less civility and fight for what we believe.

The Race Vote

As I write this the United States is about to swear in our most historic president since Lincoln; Barack Hussein Obama is the first black president. Not too many years ago this would have been considered impossible. Until this last campaign the only serious black presidential candidate was Jesse Jackson, and anyone familiar with him knows the word serious is used in the narrowest sense. He may have been seriously considered but few could have voted for him with a straight face. Our current president is a different story. He managed to give people something to vote for, while John McCain floundered. In honor of this notable day I wanted to share the reasons I could never vote for Barack Obama. (more…)
